- Answer the call within 3 rings, with a smile.
- Identify yourself and your department.
- When necessary, ask if you can place the caller on hold and wait for a response.
- When transferring a call, identify the caller and topic to the new department.
8. Use Proper Protocol When Entering a Patient’s Room
AIDET®
- Acknowledge: Make eye contact, smile, use names to acknowledge the patient, family, and colleagues.
- Introduce: Take the initiative to introduce yourself by name and your role.
- Duration: Provide how long (duration) you estimate something will take to accomplish and follow-up.
- Explanation: Focus on giving explanations of what you are doing and why before you do something. Narrate your care/service.
- Thank: Show your gratitude. Say “Thank You” to others for the opportunity to help them and/or for choosing VHC Health.
