Craig Rezac, MD, FACS, FASCRS, is a board-certified colorectal surgeon with VHC Health Physicians - Colorectal Surgery.
Dr. Rezac attended Pisa Medical School in Pisa Italy and graduated in 1995. He then completed his residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in New Brunswick New Jersey in 2000. After his residency Dr. Rezac did fellowships in Colorectal Surgery at UMDNJ and in minimally invasive surgery at Hackensack University Hospital in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Prior to joining VHC Health Physicians - Colorectal Surgery in the fall of 2017, Dr. Rezac has practiced as a colorectal surgeon in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He served as Chief of Robotic Surgery at RWJUH, and in 2014, he was named the Section Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery and worked as an Associate Professor of Surgery at UMDNJ. Throughout his entire career as a surgeon, Dr. Rezac has been an educator, and trained surgical residents and other surgeons in the latest techniques and advances in various surgical procedures.
Dr. Rezac is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colorectal Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In addition, he is a member of a number of prominent professional societies including the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery, the American Cancer Society, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Rezac leads VHC Health’s Surgical Review Corporation-accredited Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery as Program Director and as an accredited Master Surgeon in Robotic Surgery accreditation with the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) for upholding the highest quality and patient safety standards.
Dr. Rezac is considered a leader in the field of colorectal robotic surgery, and he is a frequent lecturer and scientific presenter on topics in his area of expertise. He is heavily involved ASCRS, having presented at national meetings several times in the past. In the last two years, Dr. Rezac served as director of the Robotic CRS Course with the ASCRS, and moderated the session on Robotic Surgery. He is also the author of numerous publications, journal articles and textbook chapters, primarily in the field of colorectal robotic and minimally invasive surgery. In 2016, he contributed to several videos in a series through CSurgeries, where he demonstrates a number of robotic colorectal surgical procedures.
Dr. Rezac practices an individualized approach to all aspects of colorectal disease. He works with his patients to understand their needs and ensure that each patient is actively involved in their care plan. He takes a minimally invasive approach in surgery whenever possible, utilizing the latest advancements in technology to optimize patient care.
Dr. Rezac moved to the Northern Virginia area in 2017 with his wife, Patrizia, and his daughter, Elena. Outside of work, he enjoys golf, skiing, travel, and spending time with his family.
