Specialties:

Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group

Courtney Marsh is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) providing in-office care in both obstetrics and gynecology for VHC Health Physicians - OB/GYN Arlington South and Tysons location.

Courtney’s passion for women’s health got a kick start during her undergraduate years at Smith College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1998 and worked as a labor/birth doula. She then moved to Connecticut for graduate school at Yale University where she received her nursing degree and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a certificate in nurse-midwifery in 2003. While at Yale, Courtney was a contributor to the Journal of Health Policy, Law and Ethics and focused her research on a group model for prenatal care. She served as an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Illinois School of Nursing, did an internship with Planned Parenthood in Connecticut and was a guest lecturer at Smith College. She was a National Health Service Corps Scholar and is a member of the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU). Courtney has designed and conducted workshops on IUD insertion for midwives in refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border and worked in underserved communities in both Iowa and Tennessee prior to moving to northern Virginia in 2010.

Courtney is board certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) and is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). She attended deliveries for 11 years before pivoting to focus on office-based health care in 2014. She values provider-patient collaboration with shared decision-making in health care. Connecting with the mantra of midwives as “with women for a lifetime,” Courtney has particular clinical interests in adolescent healthcare, menopause care and prenatal/childbirth education. Her professional learning pursuits include an emphasis on providing inclusive, safe, high-quality care to those in communities that have traditionally been marginalized by the mainstream health care system.

True to her Memphis roots, Courtney loves good food and good music. Outside of work, she enjoys baseball, Broadway, books, trivia and traveling with her husband and three daughters
