Dr. Robert Kruger is a native of Dayton, Ohio. He did his undergraduate work at Duke University where he graduated with honors in Zoology. He then completed his medical school training at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California Davis program in Sacramento. Following a year of practice in California, he began a 3 year fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. As a fellow, he pursued his research interest in preventing infections in lung transplant recipients and published his work in the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.

In 1999, he moved to Northern Virginia where his practice encompassed critical care, pulmonary medicine and outpatient internal medicine. He has achieved board certification in all three specialties. For the past 10 years, his practice has been focused on primary care with a special interests in pulmonary medicine and exercise physiology. Since 1999, he has been a member of the Virginia Hospital Center medical staff as well as held faculty appointments at Georgetown University School of Medicine and, most recently, at The George Washington University School of Medicine where he was an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and Clinic Medical Director. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Kruger greatly values the relationships with his patients and colleagues. He believes that open communication is essential to providing high quality care and building mutual trust and respect. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, skiing, playing tennis and creating glass art.
