Dr. McWey is the Chief of Medical Imaging, and a 22-year member of Virginia Hospital Center medical staff. He is Board Certified in Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology with added qualifications in Vascular & Interventional Radiology with experience in intervention procedures including TIPPS, chemoembolization, biliary and vascular stents, and vascular lab; he was a Co-Director of Interventional Radiology. He has been a member of the Virginia Hospital Center medical staff since 1987, and a member of the Board of Directors since 2005. He is a past Chairman of the Medical Staff's Bylaws Committee and has served on the Clinical Risk Committee and ICU Committee and he has been a member of the Medical Executive Committee for 10 years. He is the hospital Radiation Safety Officer and serves on the hospital's Radiation Safety Committee. Dr. McWey also serves the Hospital as Chief Medical Information Officer and is a member of the Hospital Board's Information Technology Oversight Committee, Professional Oversight Committee, Joint Conference Committee, Finance Committee and Planning Committee.

Dr. McWey has degrees in electrical engineering and served in the U.S. Naval submarine service as a nuclear engineer and line officer prior to attending medical school in Charleston, S.C. in 1979. He received engineering honorary, outstanding senior engineer citation, Society of American Military Engineers in 1973, and a Navy achievement medal. Dr. McWey served as Chef Resident in Radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1986-87 prior to his arrival at the hospital.
