When to Go to the Emergency Room
Call 911 or go to the closest emergency room if you have symptoms that threaten your life or could cause you to become disabled. Get emergency care when you experience:
- Breathing difficulties
- Bleeding that won't stop
- Broken bones
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Head, neck or spine injury
- High fever with a headache and stiff neck
- Seizure
- Serious burn
- Severe allergic reaction
- Smoke or poisonous fumes inhalation
- Sudden, severe pain
- Sudden confusion, weakness, or difficulty speaking, seeing or moving
- Thoughts of harming yourself or others
- Vomiting or diarrhea that won't stop
