Dr. Zhaneta Zimmer graduated from the Medical University of Sofia, Bulgaria and completed an internal medicine residency and Cardiology Fellowship at the Military Medical Academy. In her last position, she served as Chief of Ward, Intensive Care.
After relocating to the U.S., Dr. Zimmer completed an additional internal medicine residency at Providence Health System/George Washington University Hospital, Washington D.C. During her residency, she was appointed as Chief Resident and received the Resident Excellence Award. Before pursuing advanced training in Infectious Diseases, Dr. Zimmer worked as hospitalist at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Northern VA. She completed an Infectious Diseases Fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Zimmer joined VHC Health Physicians – Infectious Diseases in December 2022.
Her clinical interests include cardiovascular complications associated with a wide array of infections, HIV and Tropical Medicine. She also has a commitment to teaching and participating in the training of medical students and residents at Georgetown School of Medicine.
Dr. Zimmer is Fellow of American College of Physicians, member of Infectious Disease Society of America and American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
In her free time, Dr. Zimmer enjoys traveling, live theater and spending time with her husband and son.
She is fluent in both English and Bulgarian, and currently accepting new patients.
