Julie Kane is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who re-joined the VHC team in fall 2022 to provide obstetric and gynecological care. Julie began her career in public affairs at a large hospital system in Boston, MA. While observing and writing about a patient’s surgical experience for a hospital publication, she had an “aha!” moment and realized that she was in the wrong profession. She decided she wanted to help people more directly and enrolled in nursing school. Julie began her health care career as a registered nurse at VHC in 2012. Following a year as a bedside nurse on a medical-surgical unit, Julie pursued her passion for women’s health. She cared for patients on the VHC labor and delivery unit for the next several years and ultimately decided to become a healthcare provider.|In 2017, Julie began practice as a nurse practitioner and provided prenatal and gynecological care to uninsured and underinsured women at a charity clinic in Northern Virginia for five years. During that time, she also served as instructional clinical faculty for University of Virginia medical students, and as preceptor for several nurse practitioner students. Julie received her Master of Science in Nursing from the George Washington University in 2017. She graduated magna cum laude from SUNY Onondaga Community College with an AAS in nursing in 2011, and graduated summa cum laude from St. John Fisher University in 2006 with a BA in communications and journalism.Julie’s clinical interests include obstetrics, preventive medicine and empowering patients with education. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, exercising, and visiting museums.
