Joylene (Joy) W. Thomas, MD is a Primary Care Physician with VHC Health Physicians - Kingstowne. Dr. Thomas graduated with a Doctorate of Medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to medical school, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA and worked as a research chemist and project manager for the federal government. After medical school, she completed an internal medicine residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. Subsequently, she worked in primary care in an underserved area of southeast Washington, DC. She also worked as a contractor for the military as a primary care manager for active-duty service members, retirees, and their dependents. Her interests lie in general internal medicine, preventive medicine/wellness, and musculoskeletal disorders.
Dr. Thomas has volunteered on medical mission trips to Mexico, Ghana, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic. Other interests include spending time with family, traveling, dancing, swimming, and Bible study.
