ACRO & NCBC Studies
SAVI® Brachy uses a catheter (thin, flexible tube) to deliver tiny, radioactive pellets directly to a breast tumor to kill early-stage cancer. A type of brachytherapy (internal radiation), SAVI minimizes radiation exposure to healthy tissue and reduces complications.
SAVI studies verify favorable cosmetic outcomes with precise delivery of radiation therapy.
"We looked at cosmetic outcomes in part because it is important to our patients," said Robert Hong, MD, the presenter and medical director of radiation oncology at VHC Health. "This data points toward an additional quality of life benefit from the therapy."
Dr. Hong participated in the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) and National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC) studies, and he led the NCBC study.
