During your cancer care journey at VHC Health, you will receive support from a wide variety of professionals, such as:
- Cancer nurse— Assists your doctor and gives chemotherapy
- Dietitian — Helps you make a healthy eating plan to ensure proper nutrition during and after treatment
- Medical imaging experts
- Interventional radiologist — Performs minimally invasive treatments that use image guidance
- Radiologic technologist — Performs imaging tests
- Radiologist — Interprets the results of imaging tests
- Medical oncologist (doctor) — Oversees cancer treatment using medications
- Palliative care team— Includes a doctor, nurse, social worker, psychiatrist, clergy member and volunteers who help you manage symptoms and feel more comfortable
- Patient navigator (counselor or nurse) — Guides your and your family through the medical system by connecting you with resources and support services
- Pathologist (doctor) — Examines body fluids (like blood) and body tissues or cells to diagnose cancer
- Pharmacist — Manages your medications and intravenous (IV) nutrition according to your doctor's orders
- Radiation therapy experts:
- Dosimetrist — Takes measurements and makes calculations to ensure you get precisely the right radiation dose
- Radiation oncologist (doctor) — Oversees your radiation therapy
- Radiation therapist — Operates the radiation machine
- Radiation physicist — Oversees equipment calibration and quality control and assists in treatment planning
- Social worker — Helps you and your family access community and financial resources, and provides emotional support
