Colorectal Surgery

Three surgeons focus on woman

At VHC Health, we understand the importance of specialized care tailored to your unique needs. Our dedicated team of colorectal experts is committed to providing you with advanced surgical solutions that prioritize your outcomes and recovery.

Why Choose Us?

  • Advanced Surgical Procedures: At VHC Health, you have access to advanced colorectal surgery procedures, including robotic surgery and other minimally invasive procedures, that enhance outcomes and speed your recovery. VHC Health has more minimally invasive colorectal procedures than many other regional hospitals.
  • Experienced Robotic Surgery Team: Robotic colorectal surgery is technically very difficult. At VHC Health, our colorectal surgeons perform 86% of colorectal surgery procedures robotically to optimize your recovery. Compare this with less than 20% of colorectal surgery in the United States being performed robotically because most surgeons are not trained in the surgical techniques.
  • Recognized Excellence: Led by our colorectal surgeons, VHC Health is accredited as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). SRC-accredited surgeons and facilities experience better outcomes in robotic surgery— in terms of quality, safety, efficiency and patient experience.
  • Personalized Treatment: We believe in treating each patient as an individual with unique needs. Our compassionate team takes the time to understand your concerns and goals, crafting personalized treatment plans that prioritize your well-being.

  • Anal fissures
  • Colon and rectal cancer
  • Diverticulitis
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

Procedures

Experienced and fellowship-trained colorectal surgeons at VHC Health can diagnose and treat conditions using procedures such as:

  • Anal abscess treatment – drains a swollen, pus-filled area to ease pain and decrease the risk of anal fistula (unusual opening in the skin)
  • Anoscopy – VHC Health is the first hospital in the United States to have the newest generation of High Resolution Anoscopy (HRA), which provides superior definition and clarity of the visual field, critical to early detection of cancer of the anus and rectum, as well as cervical cancer in women. Anoscopy is an outpatient procedure and only takes about 20 minutes.
  • Colectomy – removes all or part of the colon, or large intestine
  • Diagnostic colonoscopy – looks inside the colon to detect causes of abnormal symptoms like pain, bleeding and changes in bowel habits
  • Screening colonoscopy – examines the colon to make sure it's healthy and looks for polyps, masses and other signs of colorectal cancer
  • Low anterior resection – removes the rectum to treat cancer
  • Rectal tumors – removal of tumors in an outpatient procedure that uses no incisions
  • Rectopexy – returns a prolapsed (slipped) rectum to its normal position
  • Small bowel resection – removes part of the small intestine
  • Thrombosed hemorrhoid removal – treats a painful, swollen lump with a blood clot near the anus
  • Transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization – cuts off a hemorrhoid’s blood source to shrink the hemorrhoid in a procedure using no incisions
  • Transanal endoscopic microsurgery – uses a long operating scope with a microscope through the anus to remove a rectal tumor

Less Invasive Care

During your surgical consultation, our experts will determine if you are a candidate for minimally invasive surgery, ensuring you receive the most appropriate and effective treatment for your condition. Minimally invasive surgery improves your recovery and reduces risk of complications and scars after surgery.

Trust our surgical team to take careful steps to improve your outcome. Colorectal surgeons, nurses and anesthesia specialists follow Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) measures, including:

  • Educating you and your family before treatment
  • Using the right type of pain medication for your needs and procedure
  • Helping you get moving and eating again as early as possible after surgery
  • Providing clear instructions for caring for yourself at home
  • Scheduling follow-up appointments to check on your health and progress

We're here to support your colorectal health journey every step of the way. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and take the first step towards optimal colorectal care with VHC Health.
