Diagnosing Pelvic Floor Conditions
You may need a test to help your doctor diagnose your symptoms, such as:
- Cystourethroscopy – Looks at the urethra, urethral sphincter, bladder, and ureteral opening
- Physical evaluation – Examines your pelvic floor
- Physical nerve evaluation – Looks for nerve damage in the pelvic floor
- Ultrasound – Uses high-frequency sound waves to create pictures of organs and other soft tissue structures inside your body
- Urodynamic testing – Checks the function of the lower urinary tract
- X-ray – Uses electromagnetic waves to create black-and-white pictures of the inside of your body
Your Test Results
Some test results are available on the same day. Getting more complex test results can take up to a few days. Your care team will contact you once your results are available and let you know if additional tests or appointments are needed.
If you have a MyVHC patient portal account, you can view your test results online.
Complete, Personalized Care
Your care team takes the time to help you feel comfortable during your appointment and wants to help you find relief so you can live life to its fullest. Count on your urogynecologist to be sensitive and help you understand your condition and explain your treatment options.
Depending on your needs and preferences, your individualized care plan may include:
- Biofeedback – Teaches you how to control involuntary body functions like muscle tension
- Lifestyle and behavioral changes - Improve pelvic and overall health
- Medications - Help treat and manage pelvic problems
- Pelvic floor reconstruction surgery – Repairs damaged muscles or tissues
- Vaginal pessary – Supports your pelvic organs to help with prolapse
Minimally Invasive Surgery
If surgery is the best treatment for you, know your urogynecologist uses minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. That means you may have less pain, a lower risk of infection, smaller scars, and a faster recovery. You may be able to go home the same day after your procedure.
