Infectious Disease Care
Rely on the infectious disease specialists at VHC Health for complete care and treatment of common and challenging diseases. They’ll help you feel better as quickly as possible.
What Does an Infectious Disease Specialist Do?
You may think of an infectious disease specialist as a doctor treating major disease outbreaks like COVID-19. They also provide care to keep you, your friends and family, and your community healthy and safe.
Preventing the Spread of Disease
Sometimes a disease is unavoidable, even though we try to prevent it. Diseases may spread because they are drug resistant, because people have exposure during travel or because some people have weakened immune systems. The specialists at VHC Health aggressively pursue new knowledge and skills to better understand, prevent and treat infectious diseases.

Where to Get Infectious Disease Care
You can get care from our experts at the VHC Health Physicians - Infectious Disease Arlington office or when you are in the hospital at VHC Health. Our VHC Health Physicians are dedicated to helping patients manage and recover from various infectious diseases.
Treating Infectious Diseases
Some infectious diseases resolve themselves. More serious or life-threatening infectious diseases need treatment from a doctor. Treatments vary by person and infection type. We’ll find the right treatment for your illness when you have:
- Viral infection – Use over-the-counter medications and/or prescription antiviral drugs
- Bacterial infections – Take oral antibiotic medication to kill the bacteria
- Fungal infections – Use creams or oral antifungal medications
- Parasitic infections – Take antiparasitic drugs
Antibiotic resistance makes some infectious diseases harder to treat. That’s because the bacteria change and no longer respond to overused antibiotics. You can help prevent antibiotic resistance by taking antibiotics only when needed and exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Hospital Care
If you’re in the hospital because of an infection, or an infection occurs while you’re hospitalized, you may see one of our infectious disease doctors.
Your physician will give you treatment and may provide follow-up care after you go home. After your infection is managed or cured, you’ll see your regular primary care physician.
