Inpatient Care
A secured unit within VHC Health, Inpatient Acute Care offers short-term treatment to stabilize your mental health and start treatment in a safe, supportive environment. Working with your physician, your team assesses your condition and develops an individualized treatment plan to meet your emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs.
Active Therapies
In addition to medication, you may benefit from group or individual therapy and other expressive therapies. Take an active role in your care by exploring your feelings, conflicts, fears, motivations and personal goals.
Medical Therapy
If you have severe depression, you may be a candidate for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Once overused, ECT use has been disputed. But recent research and clinical experience have shown that ECT can be highly effective in treating serious depression when administered carefully, selectively and appropriately. At VHC Health's Behavioral Health program, only a licensed behavioral health physician with specialized training in ECT administers this therapy.
Family Involvement
You need strong family support, so your care team meets with your family to get them involved during your hospitalization. You and loved ones play an active role in recovery, an essential step toward success. Your family will receive support as well to help them learn how to cope and best help you during recovery.
Sensory Modulation
Sensory modulation teaches you self-calming strategies to regulate emotions, so you need less medication. Use the techniques that work best for you, such as:
- Breathing deeply
- Listening to music
- Squeezing a stress ball, crunching hard candy or putting an ice pack on your neck
- Visiting a hospital area with soft lighting, a comfortable recliner and a mural of peaceful woodlands
- Practicing yoga
These kinds of tools, along with aromatherapy and chamomile tea, can also help you unwind as you prepare to go to sleep.
