Nonsurgical Weight Loss Procedures

The VHC Health Bariatric and Metabolic Health Center is proud to offer the latest endoscopic advancements to safely and effectively help you achieve your health goals. All procedures are endorsed by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and performed by our board-certified physicians, without incisions or overnight hospital stays. Rest easy knowing your procedure will be performed at VHC Health under the care of a multi-specialty team that prioritizes patient safety. Our endoscopic program is fully-integrated into our MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center and includes education and long-term support from the bariatric registered dietitians, psychologist, bariatrician and nurse coordinator.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

ESG is a minimally-invasive weight loss procedure that reduces the size of your stomach by 70-80% using an endoscopic suturing (stitching) device. The smaller stomach size helps decrease the amount you are able to eat and make you feel full for longer periods of time. This procedure and was approved by the FDA in 2022. The ESG is a safe and effective intervention for sustained weight loss and improvement of conditions related to obesity. Most people who have this procedure have approximately 14% of Total Body Weight loss, and approximately 70% maintain this weight loss two years after the procedure.

The ESG is ideal for people with:

  • BMI up to 50 kg/m2
  • Several attempts at weight loss that were not sustainable
  • Medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, joint pain, and sleep apnea.

Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe)

TORe is FDA-approved for people who have had a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass in the past. This revision procedure helps with weight loss by reducing the size of the connection between the stomach and the small intestine. Recent long term studies have demonstrated patients are able to sustain significant total body weight loss after this procedure.

The TORe procedure is ideal for people with:

  • BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more
  • Previous Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass with difficulty maintaining weight

The Orbera Gastric Balloon

The Orbera Gastric Balloon has been offered at VHC Health since its FDA approval in 2015. The deflated balloon is inserted through your mouth while you sleep and filled with saline. Orbera works by taking up approximately 1/3 of the space in your stomach to help you feel full earlier and for longer. The balloon stays in place for 6 months, allowing you time to build a sustainable habit of healthy eating and exercise. After 6 months, the balloon is removed in another same-day procedure with anesthesia. Results vary from person-to-person depending on diet and lifestyle changes. However, the Orbera system is reported to help patients lose more than 3 times the weight than they would lose with changes to diet and exercise alone.

The Orbera balloon is ideal for people with:

  • BMI of 30 kg/m2 to 40 kg/m2
  • Several attempts at weight loss that were not sustainable
