The Importance of Mammograms
During the pandemic, there was a precipitous decline in breast cancer screenings, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment, and more than 42,000 deaths from breast cancer. VHC’s Shari Sitron, Director of Oncology Support Services at the Dewberry Cancer Resource Center, recently spoke to WUSA9 about the importance of not delaying preventative screenings.
The American College of Radiology recommends beginning annual screening mammograms at age 40 for women at average risk for breast cancer.
