NorthernVirginia Magazine: VHC Health to Open Outpatient Pavilion in July

Three years in the making, the VHC Health outpatient pavilion in Arlington is getting rent to open in mid-July.

The 250,000-square-foot facility in a new seven-story building on North Edison Street will offer outpatient surgery, imaging, pharmacy, lab, endoscopy, and physical therapy, when it opens July 17, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Construction on the pavilion began in late 2019; the facility cost about $250 million. The new building will allow VHC to centralize outpatient services while allowing the hospital to offer more inpatient care.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin stopped by the facility Thursday after touring Amazon’s HQ2.

“By bringing outpatient services together under one roof, patients can now be conveniently scheduled for diverse healthcare services and can be seen within the same facility, often on the same day,” VHC President and CEO Christopher Lane said at Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, ARLNow reported.

VHC said that the pavilion would make health care more accessible to the region. Sen. Barbara Favola, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, said, “Our outpatient facility will in fact divert individuals from going into emergency care,” the hospital said.

About 26,000 square feet of the facility are dedicated to women’s health. VHC said in a statement that the women’s health services would include obstetrics and gynecology, maternal fetal medicine, women‘s health and wellness (including aging and menopause), genetics, breast health, urology, cardiology, advanced radiologic imaging and vascular diagnostics, all under one roof. That health center on the fifth floor will open in fall.

The next renovation at the hospital on North George Mason Drive, according to the Washington Business Journal, will be the addition of more surgical beds, mental health care, and emergency services.
