By Ryan Nadeau

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia ranked second in hospital patient nationwide in the most recent Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grade state rankings. These scores are based on data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Group and other unnamed sources. Of the 72 Virginia hospitals graded, 40 of them received an “A” grade. That 56.3% rate earned Virginia its second-place ranking. Seven of those highly-graded hospitals are in the Central Virginia Area. Those local hospitals are:

In the Fall 2023 grading period, Utah and Virginia ranked the same as they did in the Spring. However, Fall’s third-place ranking — North Carolina — fell to eighth place this Spring.
