Virginia Hospital Center COVID-19 Fund Surpasses $1 Million With $250,000 Contribution From Amazon
Arlington, VA: November 17, 2020 – Virginia Hospital Center (VHC), a community-based hospital providing medical services to the Washington, DC metropolitan area for 75 years, has received a $250,000 donation from Amazon. The funds – part of a $9 million commitment to local nonprofits – will support the Hospital’s COVID-19 relief effort bringing the total funds raised to more than $1 million.
“The funds from our COVID-19 appeal have played an essential role in the Hospital’s pandemic response, allowing VHC to be at the forefront of cutting edge developments to best protect our community,” said Anthony Burchard, President of the Virginia Hospital Center Foundation. “Reaching our initial goal of $1 million raised showcases the incredible community we have here in the DC metro area and their continued support will be essential as we persevere in the fight against COVID-19.”
The $9 million commitment to local nonprofits allocates a total of $1 million to health organizations including Virginia Hospital Center, the Arlington Free Clinic, Neighborhood Health, and Children’s National Hospital.
“Virginia Hospital Center is incredibly grateful for the support Amazon has shown to the community throughout this pandemic,” said James Cole, President & CEO of Virginia Hospital Center. “Amazon has been a critical partner, supporting the Hospital in treating our patients effectively, keeping our employees safe and morale high.”
In addition to this most recent donation, Virginia Hospital Center received roughly 1,700 meals for Hospital employees as part of Amazon’s 10,000 Meals in May program supporting local restaurants.
“Amazon is thrilled to be marking the two-year anniversary of our Arlington Headquarters announcement by celebrating the community we’re proud to call home,” said Brooke Oberwetter, Amazon’s head of external affairs in the region. “We value the relationship we have built with Virginia Hospital Center over the last year. We are happy to know that our support for the Hospital’s COVID-19 Fund will allow them to continue to provide top-notch medical care in our community.”
