Virginia Hospital Center Nursing Staff Selected for the Kiwanis Club of Arlington’s 2020 Community Service Award
Arlington, VA: October 23, 2020– Virginia Hospital Center (VHC), a community-based hospital providing medical services to the Washington, DC metropolitan area for 75 years, announced that the entire Virginia Hospital Center Nursing Staff are the recipients of the Kiwanis Club of Arlington’s 2020 Community Service Award. This award honors members of the Arlington Community who have performed extraordinary service.
“We are honored to receive the Kiwanis Community Service Award and I want to thank the Kiwanis Club of Arlington on behalf of the VHC nursing staff for this generous donation and for all the volunteer community service efforts they do to support and enhance our community,” said Melody Dickerson, RN, MS, CPHQ, SVP and Chief Nursing Officer at Virginia Hospital Center. “This award is a testament to the courage, dedication, and teamwork that our nurses so naturally bring to caring for the patients and each other, and we are proud support the community of Arlington during this COVID-19 pandemic.”
“The Arlington Kiwanis Club is honored to recognize the nurses of Virginia Hospital Center who have risked their own health and safety in caring for patients during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Tom Parker, head of the Kiwanis Club selection committee.
In recognition of this honor, the Arlington Kiwanis Club has provided $1,000 to the VHC Foundation and the Friends of Nursing Fund, which will go to providing continuing education and scholarships to nurses and aspiring nurses.
In 2019, the Arlington Kiwanis Club selected James B. Cole as the recipient of the Community Service Award. Mr. Cole has served as the President and CEO of Virginia Hospital Center since 1994.
