VHC Health Recognized with an ‘A’ Grade for the Spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Arlington, VA: May 10, 2022 – VHC Health, a community-based health system providing medical services to the Washington, DC metropolitan area, was awarded an “A” in the spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing VHC Health’s achievements in patient safety. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety.

The Safety Grade, which is updated every six months, assigns a grade of ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, or ‘F’ to all general hospitals across the country. Grades are based on each hospital’s performance in preventing harm to patients in their care, including medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. This is VHC Health’s 20th consecutive "A" Hospital Safety Grade and VHC Health is one of 33 hospitals in the nation and only seven in the state of Virginia to have reached this status.

“VHC Health is delighted to receive our 20th consecutive ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group as a direct reflection of our team’s dedication to the well-being of their patients,” said Chris Lane, President and CEO of VHC Health. “As our services expand, our efforts remain constant to provide safe, top quality medical care to communities across the Washington, DC metro area.”

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of VHC Health for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
